Montgomery County Jail Roster
The official Montgomery County inmate records path is the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Inmate and Warrant Search portal at CountyGovServices. The menu separates three public tools: Current Inmates, Recent Arrests, and Outstanding Warrants. Current Inmates is the main roster for adults housed at the Mac Sim Butler Montgomery County Detention Facility. Recent Arrests is narrower, because the portal states that it covers arrests from the last 96 hours. Warrants is not a custody roster, but it matters when a search is tied to an arrest warrant rather than a new booking.
The sheriff's jail page also routes users to the Montgomery County AL Sheriff app for the housed-inmate list. The web portal remains reachable from the sheriff's Arrests & Warrants link, and the app listings say the app includes inmate and recent-arrest features. No login, payment, or account was shown for the roster during research. The roster is still a public lookup view, not the full jail file. It does not show every hold, housing decision, internal classification note, or future court setting.
For visual confirmation, the official Montgomery County Sheriff's Office portal menu shows the three search choices before a user enters the grid.
The menu layout helps prevent one common mistake: a current jail inmate, a recent arrestee, and an outstanding-warrant subject are three different public-record questions.
Use Montgomery County Inmate Search
Start with the Current Inmates grid when the person may still be held at Mac Sim Butler. The grid is not a classic form with separate first-name and last-name boxes. Research found a Kendo grid search toolbar that searches first and last name fields by a contains match. A partial last name can help when the spelling is uncertain. If too many results appear, use the page-size control, sorting, and filters before opening a profile.
- Open the Current Inmates grid from the sheriff portal.
- Use the toolbar search for a first name, last name, or partial name.
- Sort by name, date of birth, or booking date if the result set is long.
- Select View on the matching row to open the inmate profile tied to the hidden BookNum.
- Read the profile for booking photo, demographics, charge descriptions, and bond amounts when listed.
The Recent Arrests grid works in the same portal family, but its scope is limited to a rolling 96-hour arrest list. A person may appear there before the case is easy to find in court records. Once charges are filed or settings are entered, Alacourt and the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk become the better source for formal case status.
Keep the name and date of birth from the roster before moving to court records. Montgomery County booking charge wording can differ from the formal court charge after prosecutor review.
Montgomery County Roster Fields
The roster search fields and controls are important because Montgomery County inmate records are displayed as a grid. The tool can be searched, sorted, paged, and filtered. It also uses a hidden booking number to open the profile, so a person may need to click through before charges and bond are visible.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Search toolbar | Text search | No | Searches first and last name fields by contains match. |
| Name | Grid column | No | Displays full name, often last name first. |
| Date of Birth | Date column | No | Helps distinguish people with similar names. |
| Booking Date | Date-time column | No | Shows when the jail booking was entered. |
| Book Num | Hidden field | No | Used by the View button and profile URL. |
| Page size | Dropdown | No | Options inspected were 10, 25, and 50. |
The Current Inmates grid screenshot shows the visible name, date-of-birth, booking-date, search, sort, and paging controls.
Because the public grid hides the booking number, the profile view is the place to verify the richer Montgomery County inmate record fields.
Montgomery County Inmate Profile
An inspected Montgomery County jail profile showed a booking photo above a profile grid. The page displayed date of birth, gender, race, ethnicity, height, weight, hair color, charges, and bond where a bond amount was present. The jail page says the public list includes complete name, booking date, bond amount, and charges, but research found that charges and bond are clearer after the View button is opened. Housing unit, court date, arresting agency, release date, and case number were not observed in the public profile.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| FullName | Inmate display name, usually in last-name-first format. |
| BookNum | Six-digit booking identifier used in the profile URL. |
| BookDate | Booking date and time shown in the grid. |
| BookPhoto / ImageLink | Booking photo displayed on the profile when available. |
| DOB, Race, Gender, Ethnicity | Basic demographic fields entered by the jail system. |
| Height, Weight, HairColor | Physical descriptors, with height rendered in feet and inches. |
| Charges | Charge descriptions attached to the booking record. |
| BondAmount | Per-charge bond amount when the profile has one. |
Montgomery County Custody Fallbacks
If a Montgomery County inmate record does not appear, search the right custody system before assuming the person is not held. County pretrial custody belongs in the sheriff roster. City custody may begin with the Montgomery Municipal Jail. Sentenced Alabama prisoners move to the ADOC inmate search. Federal sentenced inmates at Federal Prison Camp Montgomery or another BOP site use the BOP inmate locator. Immigration custody is searched through ICE ODLS, though official ICE sources did not locate a Montgomery County, Alabama detention facility.
| Custody question | Where to search | Identifier to use |
|---|---|---|
| Adult county jail custody | MCSO Current Inmates or Recent Arrests | Name, DOB, BookNum after profile opens |
| City jail custody | Montgomery Municipal Jail phone line | Name and date of birth |
| State prison sentence | ADOC inmate search | AIS number or name |
| Federal sentence | BOP inmate locator | Register number or name |
| Immigration detention | ICE ODLS | A-Number and country of birth, or exact biographical data |
| Victim notification | VINELink | Name and state custody details |
VINELink is a notification tool rather than the sheriff's jail roster. It can help victims or concerned people track custody changes, but the source record should still be checked with the sheriff, ADOC, BOP, ICE, or the court that controls the case.

Mail, Money, and Requests
County jail mail must include the sender's full return address and must be addressed to the inmate's full name and booking number. The official format uses MCDF, P.O. Box 4599, Montgomery, AL 36103. Incorrectly labeled mail is returned, mail without a return address is destroyed, and the jail is not required to pay postage due. Magazines and hard-copy books are not allowed under the researched jail rules, while approved books must come directly from a publisher after the required permission process.
The county jail research did not locate a commissary vendor, kiosk, online money URL, or deposit fee schedule for Mac Sim Butler. Do not apply the city jail's money-order rule to the county jail. For booking records that are not online, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Public Records Request Form RC 100 allows inspection, pickup copies, or mailed copies. The form lists no charge to inspect records, photocopies at 10 cents per page, crash reports at $4.00, certified copies at 25 cents, and several media and mailing costs.
Note: Confirm current custody with the jail before scheduling a visit, sending mail, or requesting a copied booking record.
